my current job is with fubra, an online publishing, new media, web marketing type company. fubra create, own and maintain a network of about 100 websites, mostly content-driven, and then earn money through adverts on the sites.

www.fubra.com

my official title is ’spokesperson’ which doesn’t really explain what i do. i’m a pr/journo hybrid, writing articles and press releases one minute, then interviewing people or being interviewed the next. i’m also starting to put together short video pieces for the web too.

the website i work on most is www.petrolprices.com. it’s a free site which tells you were the cheapest petrol is in your area. granted, this doesn’t sound overly exciting, until you realise there is no other site which does it. petrolprices.com is such a niche site that when journalists do a story about petrol they instantly come to us to get data and a comment.

my job is basically to get fubra and their sites in the press as often as possible, by whatever means – press releases, blogs, interviews, video content, harassing journos, bribery… etc etc.

it’s awesomely good fun – i’m either talking to big important journos all day long or writing articles, or on a really exciting day going up to london to give radio/tv interviews. although it’s not ‘real’ journalism i’m using virtually all the skills i would be in a newsroom, and i know whatever i do next what i’m doing at fubra now will be invaluable.
